Plot: An otaku is an anime obsessive, a Japanese comic book geek. In Otakus in Love, Aoki Mon is the deranged, downtrodden, young and self-confessed Manga-artisan. Except hes not. He draws and paints on stones that he arranges in wooden trays. We find him roaming the streets aimlessly, despite the map inked across his palm. Mon sees a rock and reaches for it, his hand is then skewered by a young girls heel, her name is Koino and she is only the beginning of the trouble that drives this quirky but wonderful story.

Plot: The old Japanese capital of Kyoto, 1865, towards the end of Tokugawa Period. The elite militia force Shinsen-gumi is recruiting fighters throughout Japan to suppress samurai activity in the region and defend the shogunate. Two new fighters are inducted into the ranks, the fresh-faced Sozaburo Kano (Matsuda) and Hyozo Tashiro (Asano). Sozaburo's arrival causes quite a stir in the testosterone-heavy atmosphere of the troop-house, but military life is heavily codified and violation of these codes results in decapitation. However, there seem to be no shortage of contenders ready to lose their head over this young bishonen (pretty boy).
